Wisdom With Strength

ENGLISH as a SECOND LANGUAGE

Over 70% of our students come from a language background other than English (LBOTE). This involves more than 25 different nationalities.

The school has an extensive English as a Second Language program (ESL).

There is one full time and two part time teachers. All students entering the school from a LBOTE are assessed to determine the level of support required. The ESL teachers focus on oral skills, reading responses and writing. The strategies used vary from classroom withdrawal for beginners to in-class support for later phase students. Whilst in-class support does focus on literacy aspects, support is given in the full range of key learning areas.

Our student welfare policies are designed on the foundations of tolerance and acceptance.
